Don't Skip the Serum!

Many of us are slightly uneducated when it come to serums. Maybe we just think that it's "just another step". But in fact it is a very important step when it come to hydrating your skin.

So what does a Serum do? The serum is applied to the face before the moisturiser. It is actually the "food" for your skin delivering all the essential nutrients your skin needs. Seacrets Balancing Facial Serum is actually considered an important component of your Dead Sea Skin Care routine. It will provide your skin with the perfect balance of hydration and nutrition. The Serum contain a concentrated combination of Vitamins, Dead Sea Minerals, Herbal Extracts, Amino Acids and Carbohydrates. This formula adds the perfect amount of nutrition and moisture to refresh your facial skin and appearance for a very youthful look!

Can you "Shrink" your pores?

The verdict is in and the answer is NO...

Not what you were expecting to hear was it? What does this mean even though you spent years buying "Shrink Your Pore products" and were given years of advice on how to "shrink your pores by steaming your face, and then splashing it with ice cold water." Well my friends, sadly you were mistaken.

In fact, Skin pores are actually just the openings of hair follicles, oil glands and sweat glands. Because you actually inherited your pore size , you cannot change their size.

But wait! There are reasons why you would think otherwise. Certain conditions can actually make your pores appear larger. For example, if you have oily skin or are prone to acne you most likely have large pores. (Squeezing of blackheads and pimples may also lead to permanently widened pores, some of which may actually be tiny, pitted scars. So stop squeezing!)

Another example of when thought your pores were shrinking, is when you may have experienced sunburn. It's actually your skin reacting to the inflammation and swelling around the pores. You can get the same effect by pinching your skin or lightly slapping your cheeks to have a light pink look. But this is all temporary. Once the inflammation has gone down, the pores will return to their original appearance.

So what do we do when we believe we have the largest, ugliest, most visible pores? There are a few things.

1. Wash your face with a great cleanser up to 3 times a day. This will prevent oils from           accumulating, clogging up, and distending the pores. I recommend Seacret's Deep Cleansing Facial Wash or Seacret's Mud Soap. Both are great to help with that excess oils on your face.

2. Use a great toner that makes you and your skin feel good. I recommend Seacret's Mineral-Rich Refining Toner. It will remove excess oil and dirt and is Alcohol Free!

3. Exfoliate! This will help get rid of all the dead skin that is clogging the pores and making your oil glands produce more oil! I highly recommend Seacret's Mineral Rich Peeling Gel. It is great for sensitive and or oily skin, and removes your dead skin right before your eyes!
4. Use an oil-free moisturiser. It will allow your skin to breathe perfectly and reduce the chance of clogging your pores. Seacret has an amazing light weight OIL FREE Essential Moisture Face Cream.
*Last bit of advice, stop sitting in front of your magnifying mirror! Not many things look that amazing close up ;)

Skin Care Daily Routine

Being part of the Beauty Industry for the past 14 years, I have received  many questions over the years about what my personal routine is. I thought this would be a great opportunity to share what I find works for me as far as a Skin Routine.

I believe there are 5 key basic steps.

1. Cleanse - This first step is crucial. I cleanse my face twice a day. Morning is quick just to freshen up (because I go to bed with a clean face). But at night time, I make sure I cleanse well! I do wear make up and I want to ensure that all the product I have on my face is gently but effectively removed. You want to stay clear of products that foam, they usually contain SLS and can either irritate your face because of the sulfates used in them.

          • I use Seacret's Deep Cleansing Facial Wash  (alternating with)
          • Seacret's Mud Soap
      2. Tone - I have found over the years that this is one that I was partial to "skip". I suppose that I can blame it on not understanding the true purpose of a toner. Now I find it crucial to fit into my daily routine. Not only does it provide that last bit of cleaning, but it also closes my pores. You want to find a toner that has Allantoin (a bacteria inhibitor, moisturiser, soothing agent and anti-irritant) Chamomile ( which is known to soothe and help reduce redness) and Aloe Vera (which provides Soothing and refreshing as well as it is a Anti- inflammatory.

  • I use Seacret's Mineral Rich Refining Toner

3. Exfoliate - Did you know that it's this simple...             Dead skin = Dry skin = Wrinkles! A way to prevent that is exfoliate! Not only does it get rid of dead cells, but also leaves the skin soft and smooth!

  • I alternate between two exfoliates.  Seacret's Mineral Rich Peeling Gel (and)
  • Seacret's Purifying Peeling Milk

4. Eye Serum - The food for your skin. Applying Serum around your eyes will actually prepare your skin for maximum absorption of moisture. Serum will go to the deepest layer of the skin and strengthen the natural defence mechanisms of the skin through nourishment. It will also strengthen the skin and return its natural flexibility and firmness. We've all heard it before, you notice stages of ageing first around the eyes. This is a great way to prolong that from happening!

  • I use Seacret's REVIVE Eye Serum

5. Moisture - The last thing applied to my face is moisturiser. Applying a moisturiser will re-hydrate, nourish and protect your skin. I like a moisturiser that is light and will easily be absorbed. I apply this morning and night.

  • I use Seacret's Intensive Moisture Face Cream

Thanks so much for tacking the time to learn about my 5 basic steps. To learn more about the products I use please click here.

Can your Skin survive Winter?

Causes of Dry Skin

There are many factors that cause dry skin.  Here are some of the most common.

Age: As estrogen production decreases in women, particularly as menopause nears, the skin produces fewer lipids. As you get older, cell turnover also slows down, resulting in more flakiness.

Genes: Some people are more genetically predisposed to skin dryness than others. It could be as simple as having fewer oil glands. Or you could be one of the millions of Americans who suffer from eczema, a skin disorder that is often hereditary.
Weather changes: "Chilly temperatures, cold winds, low humidity, and dry indoor heat (particularly the forced-air type) cause water to evaporate from the skin because there is more water in your skin than in the air," says  Cherie Ditre, an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Long, hot baths and showers: Too much washing strips the skin of its protective layer of oil, causing it to become dry. Then, as the water evaporates from the skin, it pulls more valuable moisture from the epidermis with it. Cleansing with harsh soaps can also strip lipids from the skin and increase water loss.
To avoid loss of moisture, try Secrets Mineral Soap followed by Seacrets Body Butter. They are two must haves for this winter season.

Smoking: Extremely toxic for the skin, smoking deprives the outer layers of oxygen and nutrients, as well as promoting premature wrinkling.

Bundling up in woollen clothing: Although trendy for this cold season, Scratchy materials can rub your skin the wrong way, disrupting the barrier that keeps moisture in and causing chapping.

Chronic health conditions: Diabetes, thyroid disorders, kidney disease, and some other conditions can affect the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Some medications―including antihistamines, tamoxifen (for breast cancer), and certain antidepressants―also cause dryness.
